screen freeze
Reply Quote
Hi,

I'm running Time Snapper Proffesional on Vista x64 with dual monitor and I've been experiencing strange problem. Every time the snapshot is taken in the background my whole screen freezes for second or two. I've tried running TS in Extra low priority mode but it even worsened the situation (freeze lasted longer). Is this some kind of a known problem? Is there any workaround?

Thanks!
 Peter

This is very strange. I remember something like this from way back and the problem then was a faulty video card driver. You might like to see if you can update that.

This could also theoretically happen when you're out of memory. You might like to take a look at the log file and see if there is anything noteworthy there (you can either find it in %appdata%\TimeSnapper\ or in the TimeSnapper installation directory)...

1. Can you try configuring it just to capture just one screen and see if that fixes the problem.
2. How big are the images generated?

please report back if you see something!

I’ve checked capturing options for different screens. Capturing only working application works fine - no freeze. Capturing first screen (1680x1050) works OK. Capturing second screen causes the freeze.

The problem seems to be related to the fact the second screen is rotated by 90 degrees (vertical). With rotation turned off no freezing occurs. I’ve installed latest NVIDIA drivers (GeForce 8300 integrated graphics card) but nothing changed. Time Snapper log shows no errors or warnings. Any ideas what can I do next?

Thanks!

Based on this, this seems to be a problem with your graphics driver unfortunately (which doesn't seem optimized for this scenario). I'm afraid I can't think of anything that might help you...

But if you come up with something clever, we'd be interested in hearing. Sorry!
