I Richard
URL Capturing is a recent feature whereby TimeSnapper pays special attention to known browsers, and records the url of the site you are visiting.
(For all other applications, all you get is the window title and application name, -- in addition to the snapshot of course)
Using this information you can see more detailed information about how you use your computer, and you can customize the productivity settings in a more productive way. (for example, you can say that the TimeSnapper forums are productive, while facebook is not).
cheers!

Thanks for this (which I had sort of guessed).
The problem I have got is that I can't find where can I see the results of the information that is being captured.

Ah yes, good question.
The best way to see the url information all at once is in the reports.
(Reports are available from the starting screen, via the reports button)
Run the 'Program Statistics' report -- and you'll see that the names of any browser's you've been using are hyperlinks.
Click on the browser's name to see a report on the urls that were visited from that browser, and how long was spent at each one.

Ok - found that. Interesting.
Some more questions:
* How does TS measure time spent in an app/website - is it based on the number of screenshots where that app/url has the focus?
* Your reference to 'the best way' implies that the url information is visible elsewhere. If so, where. It doesn't appear to be possible to filter the browser view by url?
I am not sure whether you are involved in the development of TS but can I suggest to whoever is, that some more information is put in the Help about this because it is not immediately obvious how to access the url information.

Hi Richard,
you can right click a screenshot in the day browser and select "properties". That will show you some basic information about the snapshot.
You can also go to the "Find" dialog from the main application screen. You will find two columns in that spread: "Domain" and "URL"
This is mainly a feature for supporting the "Productivity Classification", not exactly a standalone feature (although it can be used of course :)
* How does TS measure time spent in an app/website - is it based on the number of screenshots where that app/url has the focus?
Are you referring to the "Time spent" report?
Please see my (complicated) answer here:

Thanks

But you can't specify the URL as part of the search? If not, this would be a nice feature. It would also be nice to be able to filter the browser view by URL in the same way as one can filter by program.
[Incidentally, I can't get the program search parameter to work when I type it in directly. If I type in iexplore.exe and hit search, I don't get any results. If I do a search with the Program drop down empty and then select iexplore.com from from the drop down it filtere the list to just those screen shots of iexplore.com. ]
I can't seem to get to posting 305. That URL doesn't work.
Thanks

Did you know you can actually type in a part of the window title and TimeSnapper will filter on that. So if the website is consistent with window title, you might be able to use that

I'm not able to reproduce that. Make sure you don't have any spaces on either end. Can you type in partial, like just iexplo. Timesnapper automatically adds wildcards there.

Thank, Atli. Searching on "iexpl" worked so I am not sure what I did wrong last time.
And just to confirm, the search on the window title only works in the Find dialog? There is no way to directly filter the Browser view by title?
And the new link worked!

Yes, you can also filter on the title in the "Day browser". Just type directly into the Filter box.
Although it appears only to support program names, it actually can filter on window titles as well. We just didn't want to populate the combobox with all the different titles. It would make the control quite hard to use I'd think.
cheers

Great - I can see that being useful.
Can I suggest that you look at your Help - I did browse around a bit but couldn't find anything about URLS.

Very good point richard.
We're currently putting together a wiki, so that the help can be updated more rapidly and so that thoughtful, clever, diligent people such as yourself can contribute improvements to our own shortfall in a more direct way.

:-)
TS is a great product - I really don't know how I managed without it before but I think it is a problem that some of the features are not easy to find.
eg adding bubble help to to the filter box on the Browse Day screen to tell people they can type in part of a caption
eg adding a Refresh button to the Browse Day screen (to replicate the very useful but not obvious Ctrl + F5 functionality0
and so on

Is there any chance TimeSnapper can support URL capturing for Opera?
(I use Opera10)

We haven't had many requests for supporting Opera so it hasn't gotten enough priority. Currently we are supporting the major browsers and a bit more.
thanks
