Using the Windows key for keyboard shortcuts - simplifying shortcuts in general
|

Hi,
On my keyboard [and most UK keyboards?], the Windows key is stuck at the far top-right of the keyboard which makes it a somewhat unwieldy to use, particularly so given the multi-step nature of the the shortcut process, even when I use '0' instead of the default.
What about simplifying all this? Why not use Ctrl/Alt/Shift and another key [some combination thereof] to execute the use of keyboard shortcuts like most programs do? - like Ctrl+Q to take a manual snapshot? I always like it when a program's developers allow users to choose their own shortcuts.
I wonder if there is any possibility of re-appropriating the PrtSc key for use with TimeSnapper?
Thanks
Noel

The reason why we implemented the shortcut as they are now is both for simplicity but also because it's normally hard to have multiple global keyboard shortcuts (since they can easily interfere with standard applications).
And also, in general people don't tend to use these shortcuts (which is too bad!) - making "keyboard bindings" a bit costly feature compared to gains.
Your case on having the Windows key in the top-right of the keyboard is something that I haven't heard of before. I did some quick googling and only found "regular" standard keyboards from UK - i.e. with the Windows button close to the Spacebar.
I actually had been thinking about having PrtScr as a default shortcut for the manual screen capture. :) But are you thinking about using it instead of the Win key?
thanks

Hi Atil,
Yes, my Windows key is at the top-right of my keyboard. This, however, is my Toshiba Equium laptop which I use as my main PC.
PrtScr would be pretty useful for me to take a manual screenshot by itself if that's what you mean [Without using the Windows key]. I use SnagIt, Jing and another app to take screen caps - only occasionally do I need/prefer to use the PrtScr key - then pasting the capture into MS Paint.
I for one would happily give up this occasional use if it means I can take a manual screen cap in Timesnapper. It's so useful to have the manual screen caps automatically logged in a programme like TS rather than having to continuously follow the copy-paste-copy-paste pattern.
I agree it is a pity that more people don't use keyboard shortcuts - so useful!
Thank you
