Reports do not display and instead, show a file download box

blarggstar 01-09-2008, 16:17
When viewing any of the reports, I get a file download box.
I have tried re-associating the file type (xml) to internet explorer and timesnapper and it doesn't change the behavior.

This just happened today.
I have Timesnapper Professional 2.6.3.0 on trial.
I'm using XP Pro.

Here is a screenshot posted on my work server:

Any clues?

Hi Ben,

did you install any software in the meantime?
You might like to check this link - although specifically talking about DreamWeaver, I do believe it might probably be the same solution:

Excerpt:
Delete the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xml] "Content Type"="application/x-xml" registry key mentioned above.
Warning:
Editing the Windows Registry incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require reinstalling your operating system. Macromedia does not guarantee that problems caused by editing the registry incorrectly can be resolved. Edit the registry at your own risk.

Haven't tried it but it sounds promising!

cheers

I just un-installed dreamweaver this morning.  I will read the link and see what I can do.  I'll let you know how it went!

BTW, I'm buying timesnapper next week when my trial expires!

Problem:
Unable to view timesnapper reports.  Directly related to Internet Explorer not being able view xml files.

Solution:
Open command prompt and run "regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll"

Details:
Deleting the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xml] "Content Type"="application/x-xml" registry key did not solve my problem.

I did realize that the problem had to do with Internet Explorer's ability view xml files.

I found this forum post over on MSDN forums:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=885214&SiteID=1

Re-registering msxml3.dll solved my problem.

Just had same problem as title of this post. Registering MSMXL 3 fixed the problem.

To do so: Start -> Run -> regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll
